To Handle a Specimen Containing Hemopure or Oxyglobin:

  • Step 1: Identify patient specimen contains HBOC (Hemopure or Oxyglobin). Details.
  • Step 2: Measure specimen plasma hemoglobin (assumed to be HBOC). Details.
  • Step 3: Evaluate measured plasma hemoglobin level for evidence of interference of desired analyte by using Assay Limitation Sheet. Assay specimen if interference does not occur at the measured plasma hemoglobin. Details. See Step 5, if no assay interference data is known for instrument.
  • Step 4: Report results to clinician. Details.
  • Step 5: Other Options if Assay Limitation Sheet not available. Details.
